Has 544 been scrapped yet, or is she still serving the Dalian Academy? I'm surprised that 051S was planned to equip with HY-1, YJ-8 was already developed at that time and probably would have been more difficult to decoy. But the original YJ-8 was only ever deployed on 053H2 frigates and 021G and 024G missile boats (the last two were never built/converted on a large scale). It wasn't until the YJ-83 that this family of antiship missile became the PLAN standard. I never understood why, since it was a perfectly good missile well within Chinese technical capability to produce in large numbers. In fact YJ-82, the current standard PLAN torpedo-tube-launched antiship missile, is based on the old YJ-8 not YJ-83, because of size constraints. Was PLAN just holding out for sometihng better?
