Chinese actually traditionally are less class conscious than the euros. Traditionally the hereditary aristocrats were at the top of class pyramid in europe, like the 'Let them eat cake'  Marie Antoinette. Then came the French Revolution and the rise of the middle class in Europe but the nostagia or sense of certain class superiority still linger on. Some examples:

1)Beautiful music aside, the hero and heroine of Swan Lake are prince and princess, ie figures of the 'oppressor' class the Commie Soviet Union dispired but yet it was still regularly played there as a piece of timeless classic/national treasure.

2)Why 'classy', 'classic' are still positive lingos?

3)How to tell an upper class person in old europe? Besides the family emblem, likely the ornament, tiara, jewellery..but these are more expensive, so for the average contemporary 'middle class' suckers, they have 'designer labels'

The ads of a certain 'fashion' marketer recently popped up quite frequently on my PC(I mentioned b4). I guess it takes a stupid sucker to pay almost US$100 for a T shirt with a logo(that of a fashion designer)
