The latest central government directive is likely to cover only PC brands and software, and exclude hard-to-replace components such as processors from Intel and AMD, the people said. China will mostly encourage Linux-based operating systems to replace Microsoft’s Windows.

If they can dump Windows for Linux or other OS, they can definitely dump Intel/AMD for domestic CPU. It's the software that define user experience and functionality that people tend to find hard to replace than CPU which basically just define processing power. LS3A5000 based notebook from hardware to software are domestic made, down to CPU instruction set architecture level.

BTW, in state acquisition form, a domestic computer is defined as one that use both domestic CPU and OS, CPU such as Loongson (LoongArch), Shenwei (Alpha), FT (ARM) etc and OS such as Kylin etc. This basically kiss Lenovo goodbye if the new policy is applied across all government agencies and state enterprises.

Supporting domestic computer has been pushed since Trump launched the Trade War. I wonder, is this a new policy that broaden the scope, hasten the pace, setting a timeframe, has anything to do with Western sanction of Russia, particularly with the US explicitly threaten to apply the same scope of sanction in a TW scenario.
