It's a long weekend in America coming up, no one is going to pay attention to this foreign war or announcements.

That is why this FUD campaign is so puzzling (Fear Uncertainty Doubt).

Who exactly is the target audience?

It is not the American public, because the White House tells us that they will only invade on the weekends. The American public has something better to do.

It cannot be the Russians or Ukrainians because they would know better what the situation on the ground was like. So far the past couple of weeks, IIRC both leaders of those countries said there was going to be no war.

My guess is the Americans are trying to change public opinion in Western Europe with this FUD campaign. If that is the case, then we can expect nothing to change. It will be the same countries that buy into this FUD campaign and the same countries that will reject the FUD campaign, the same ones as the last war against Saddam Hussein.
