Energy efficiency of electric motor as high as 90%----Energy efficiency of gasoline motor < 30%

mechanical energy output of electric motor from feeding 1 ton of coal to electric power plant

: mechanical energy output of  from feeding 2 ton of cruel oil to refinery then gasoline to gasoline engine

=  50% x 90% : 2 x 30% x 80%

Conclusion: They're about the same relative to carbon emission
