I'm not bothering about the image of the Chinese olympians, as long as they are consistenly winning medals olympics after olympics, they will shut the critics and haters like you said. But that is for the future. Currently China is in a struggle to gain public opinion support against its enemies. China doesn't have luxury to wait patiently. That's why wolf warrior diplomacy is born. If they want to play dirty, then we should drag them down to the mud together.

btw, one thing that I observed. Before wolf warrior diplomacy, most countries bought what the US said about China as if it is a fact. But when China fought back, while China didn't manage to convert the skeptics into fans, China managed to pulled them from US orbit. Most countries now want to stay neutral, and most of them didn't believe the naratives from either China or the US. For me, that is a win. If China can't gain friend, at least you should make your enemy lose friends too.
