ZHANG Yufei blazes to gold in pool in Olympic Record

Zhang Yufei from People's Republic of China becomes Olympic champion in the 200m butterfly with American duo in silver and bronze; shortly afterwards Zhang wins a second gold of the day in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

ZHANG Yufei beams in delight on winning her second medal in the pool of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, beating the American duo of Regan Smith and Hali Flickinger to silver and bronze, respectively. The Chinese went out fast in the women's 200m butterfly winning in an Olympic Record time of 2:03.86.

Smith was open-mouthed in shock on registering her time, one second under her personal best (2:05.30). Flickinger won bronze in 2:05.65.

Zhang went out fast as expected, swimming the first 100m on world record time with the American duo battling it out behind her, slowly catching the 23 year old, but Zhang still won comfortably.

Hungary's world champion in the event Boglarka Kapas came in fourth (2:06.53) with the fastest qualifier ROC's Svetlana Chimrova in fifth (2:07.70).

Great Britain's Alys Thomas came seventh (2:07.90).

Zhang came out for her next event of the day, the women's 4x200m freestlye relay and won her second gold of the day. Zhang also won silver in the 100m butterfly on 26 July.
