Times have changed, and since 1990 nothing greater than 10 tons has been allowed to de-orbit in an uncontrolled manner, even if the risk to people on the ground is small. And it's not just NASA that is saying this. Should the whole world besides China just STFU then? And saying NASA has previously de-orbited large pieces and therefore has nothing to say now is a total logical fallacy, a whataboutism that does nothing to diminish the argument on its merits. China has de-orbited uncontrolled a large core module that other countries have de-orbited controlled since 1990. That is the plain fact no matter how many NASA explosions you cite.
