I'm no prophet(Mohamed PBUH is the last one) but Modi is a very successful 'populist'/demagogue. Considered that he caused a lot of econ turbulence with his 'demonetisation' policy yet he won the 2019 election with bigger margins than in 2014. The bottom line is it takes decades to build up the economy but it takes only a few caste/religious riots to get votes.
