In the early days, 166 (repainted as 168) and 167 visited the United States and other Indo-Pacific countries, but the anti-piracy patrols were mostly carried out by 054 frigates and 052C and C destroyers. The Sovs and the 051C never took part in any of these patrols. The carriers are steam-powered, and presumably any powerplant issues would have been worked out on the Liaoning before construction of the second carrier, but this makes me wonder.
