I agree with you on the importance of media and the private venue.

The current Chinese strategy is too blunt to be effective. The soft/personal touch sometimes makes a much better venue than tough wolf approach.

Human psyche is a tricky thing to deal with: asking the sky then back up by asking the more reasonable stuff worked better than other way around. On the same vein, personally respect your opponent and dp private exchange may be more pursuasive.
