This was a highly technical article, which was surprising because at the beginning it seemly technical but at the end, my impression was it was completely technical.

But from all that technical talk, we are suppose to draw lessons from it, like real world lessons and political views.

Let's try to interpret some technical parts, even thought this is just a hobby of mine, reading the news, but first we reject something. We reject the idea of the control point, which it is implied that who has this control point can control the platform. This probably just sensationalism to get people interested.

What are platforms?

In the geek world, platforms are IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.

The Google definition:- IaaS: cloud-based services, pay-as-you-go for services such as storage, networking, and virtualization. PaaS: hardware and software tools available over the internet. SaaS: software that's available via a third-party over the internet. On-premise: software that's installed in the same building as your business.

That is the platform, the digital infrastructure, in other words. As with any infrastructure, it has to be built and it has to be maintained.

The forest and the trees. Then there is another forest.

What he describes, the trees he provides all the details about how specific Chinese companies are doing their thing. Then he puts that into the larger context, and presents the bigger picture of what is happening with Chinese tech companies.

He knows all about the individual trees, and the forest, but he does not mention that other forest, deliberately or inadvertently, the other forest is America 20 years ago after the Cold War. Twenty years ago, America leading it allies, was this one stop shop too, to buy everything for this digital infrastructure.

This consultant, appears to be just describing today, that today China itself is also a one stop shop for this digital infrastructure.

Identity.

We got to remember 20 years ago, when America was that dominant. Only America was able to sell this one stop shop of platforms. It allies, where selling them components to make the platform, but America sold the platform.

1. It is still the same, today America is still selling platforms. 2. It is different now, there is competition as both America and China selling platforms.

Notice on that list, those four board themes, that China does all four at full speed and America only does two or three, not the last one. Also consider who can probably build this infrastructure cheaper.

Sooner or later, we always run into the American world view, which is China cannot be the equal or better of them.

This article talks about that case, and shows how China has advanced, doing stuff that America is not even doing. Since this is so technical, people will not pay attention or understand it. Hence, he has to use phrases like control point, to get people's attention.

To illustrate here, how China has advanced, Huawei builds the 5G network, then Chinese companies sells you the platforms to be run on top of that. Where's America 5G network, and platforms for that?

As we have seen in the Trump years, America cannot accept that, and most definitely not ready for that. But they assume that day is in the future when China gets almost as strong as them, but that day is today.

One final consideration, is that this world is increasingly becoming more technical and more digitized.

So if you want to be a leader, you must bring out the platforms tech.

I think that is a very good point, and very interesting, that the future, since technology is so intertwined, if you want influence in the world, the most influence, you would need to sell the platform tech and not some components inside the platform hardware.

Well, someone will say, but the world always has seen the leader with new technology. Yes. That is what this article is saying, but with much precision. It is the platform technology will be a decisive battleground. Along with popular apps for the end user.

Thanks for reading this rant for those who have not fallen asleep at this point. I thought this stuff was all relatively known, if not fully understood at least mostly understood. But I was wrong. I think fewer people understanding this stuff than I thought. In case it helps, lol.

Next article, a real world example of this stuff, and how and why who is considered influential and a leader in the world.
