The CIA trying to overthrow a government or fix an election is nothing new. And Jimmy Lai's right hand man, everyone believes he is CIA. What is interesting here is that this CIA op, is being funded not by an organ affiliated with the US government, but by a foreigner, who has extensive ties with the anti-China communities in Asia, which kind makes them all suspects under US law.

There are two illegal actions here under US law.
The CIA cannot interfere into US elections that is against US law.
Foreigners cannot interfere into US elections that is against US law.

At least one or both of the above transgressions are happening here.

If it was only Jimmy Lai, then this story will be swept under the rug, just some Chinese guy doing weird stuff.

But this is also about his right hand man, Mark Simon, who could be CIA, and the Chinese are convinced he is CIA.

Who is Mark Simon? And this is where the conspiracy theories start, and the Americans love their conspiracy theories, like who shot Kennedy.
