This is an old article, but look at the charts/graphics.The PRC is right on schedule with the national 5G roll out, just the pandemic got in the way.

My impression is that the very top of the line semiconductor chips are mainly for the cell phones, the top of the line cells phones required the best chips around 7nm or lower soon.
The base stations and antenna that make the 5G network possible, probably does not need the best chip, and I would think that China probably produces those 28nm or 14nm as those are a few generations behind.
Well look, logically if they already built the stand alone 5G network in Shenzhen, then very unlikely that needed the top of the line 7nm chips.
It takes time to physically install the base station and antenna. Those boxes and antenna were already built.
Going forward, it seems with the US restriction against Huawei, they may not find the best 7nm chips for a while, so they have to depend on their stock pile for as long as that last for their phones. The network part of the business, might not be impeded much at all.
The American government has been attacking Huawei for 2 years, yet they happen to be the number #1 selling cell phone brand in the world, and now they have already built a stand alone 5G network in Shenzhen, all during these constant United States government attacks.
Install more base stations, and the entire country could have the stand alone 5G network, maybe we count in number of months? It could be already totally game over in this race to be first in 5G. It is over, just need the Western press to tell its readers who lost.
Good job for the telecom industry of China.
