TCM is no different than ayurveda, except it is based on Taoism instead of Hinduism. At best, TCM ingredients may be used as starting points to investigate the efficacy of their chemical components, but otherwise it had best be relegated to the museums of historical ethnomedicine. Tu Youyou did NOT study TCM at all, only compounds derived from traditional ingredients. The only reason why Chairman Mao supported a form of TCM was because Chinese medical infrastructure back then was so bad that it was better than nothing. We should cure ourselves of these superstitions now that China has modern technology. And as Mao Clone said, it's not "western" versus "Chinese" medicine, it's traditional versus modern medecine.
