China has no answer to a US policy of denying it the use of the US Dollar.  None.  The US has a very low opinion of much of the world's governments who they see as perfeclty willing to roll over like a puppy for a belly rub from the Chinese.  If the US has to go it alone they will because in their eyes China now openly threatens the US as well as Japan.  Xi Jinping seems to be supremely insecure and feels he has to control everything within eyesight.  Xinjiang, Hong Kong, South China Sea, openly challenging the US. These were all places and things Xis more secure and well adjusted predecessors knew would anger and alienate the west and particularly the US.    His "Made in China 2025" speech opened a lot of sleepy eyes, and especially so in the US.  If Xi is perceived by the US as backing it into a corner economically and / or militarily the US will definitely pull the pin and throw that grenade.
