What he did, the US President played the race card.As despicable as that is, what exactly was the point? There just are not that much Chinese in America, and if all Asians were lumped together, maybe 5% of the population?
My interpretation is he knows he is in real trouble with his base.
This coronavirus could eat up his presidency.
Whip up the hatred in his base, to keep it going the momentum, and most to deflect the wave of Covid-19 cases that will be coming.
A desperation move. It might work, it might not.
The United States seems rudderless now. Just which tribe who has the upper hand in the screaming match gets its way for the moment.
