It's likely that the current number of cases are skewed toward the severely ill, and that those who are infected but only mildly symptomatic or don't even feel sick are excluded because they don't feel bad enough to seek medical help. It is quite possible that many more people are infected but barely feel ill, meaning that the death rate could be less than 1%. As usual, the media is encouraging the panic.
