The masks aren't even that effective and people don't know how to use them properly. Also, lots of wild rumours are being spread on the internet, some of them are blaming the government and were probably started by the US. This could be a Chernobyl moment, even though the outbreak is clearly not as serious as SARS was. The only positive thing is that it's a good way to test public health responses.
