The hindus system is more 'professional' or careerist and the overwhelming % of grunts serve until the mandatory retirement age for 2 reasons:1)Traditionally, soldiering is the job of the martial castes 2)Very serious unemployment problem and the hindu civil services and the military are major institutions that offer secure jobs(with pension)

According to P.116 of the hindu govt docu linked below, 5.5 million hindus applied for military jobs and only < 60,000 got the jobs(hindu mil manpower is said to be >1.4 millions + 'para-military' of 1.3 millions) It means once a young hindu of poorer background got in, it'll be the career of his life)
