Pearls were jewellery in the Mesopotamia/Babylon(where Abraham came from)but the word 'pearl' is ABSENT from the entire text of the jewish Old Testament. Why? I guess because clams are unkosher.

Gospel according to Mathew:Jesus said:" Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast. ye your pearls before swine,"

Metaphoric interpretation: Don't preach to the unworthy (roman/greek) pagans, waste of time.

However metaphors are meaningless unless if it has certain human experience basis. Like calling God the king of heaven because the king was the highest authority then.

So what do pearls mean to pigs? Some facts:

--Only humans have a sense for artificial aesthetics, not even monkeys, definitely not pigs

--Pigs care more about food(followed by procreation..)than anything else;real pearls aren't edible

I was introduced to the book "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross" by a professor when we discussed religions and that book claims the 'pearls' were magic mushrooms (based on the author John Allegro's interpretation judaic-christianity originated from magic mushroom cult). That might be a bit far stretched but likely the 'pearls' could just mean non-hallucinogenic mushroom. Pigs are gourmets among animals I guess; eat like a pig.
