by protesters simply because he disagreed with them.  It was a mob attack though and his face was full of blood. 

I was naive thinking that they can be reasoned with if China was willing to talk to them but after I have witnessed their violence especially toward the old man who was just standing there by himself and they kept smashing his head with sticks, I despised them.  They are like thugs!
