sad for Taiwan for it keeps losing allies and soon there might not be any ally left.  Taiwan may feel compel to declare a formal independence at the end then the People's Republic launches an invasion and White face Americans ask White face Europeans to gang up on China.  World War III begins or Taiwan will simply negotiate with the People's Republic about unity and obtain greater autonomy the the White faces lose their hope of using Taiwan as their tool to contain China. Will the People's Republic be nice to its neigbors and stop its excessive claims in the South China Sea? Otherwise, Japan, South Korea, Philpinnes and Vietnam will join the US.  China will lose at the end in my opinion. 

The switch has geopolitical significance that will be felt as far away as Washington because the Solomon Islands are located directly between Australia and the U.S. and were the site of fierce battles during World War II.
