The West will eventually come along.  It is very superficial on the shallowest level.   The fact that China lifted 800 million out of poverty and increased the living standards by all indicators by the hundreds of millions got lost in the shuffle when they are looking at half truth shiny objects such as the Uighurs issue, Tibet, Tianamen, "Organ harversting", endangered species for medicinal purposes and more.  Many in the West still think China is like it was in the 1980s.   That's how far out of touch they are.  When I say the West, I think I meant the Anglo-Sphere more so than other European nations.
