Chinese defense spending 2019 is between 1.4 % (official figure) and 1.9 % (SIPRI estimate) of GDP - meaning between $ 340 billion and $ 480 billion when adjusted for PPP, that is between 45 % and 65 % of the US military budget. Since the vast majority of Chinese military expenditure is internal, it is best to use the PPP adjusted figure to get a sense of scale.
