It is about self esteem and self identity. 

My girls don't date Whites. Not because they are racists but because they are more comfortable with someone from the same cultural root. My son dates a white girl but he knows that when come to marriage he may settle down with a Chinese girl.

But they thrive in the mainstream culture and doing well.
