If the US starts to deploy medium range nuclear capable missiles around China, the only countermove is to increase her inventory of ICBMs. I think between 500 to 800 multiple warhead ICBMs should suffice. Once achieved, China would be a true peer competitor to the US in the military arena and the US would have forever lost that leverage.
