My take:

The US establishment,’liberal’ or not, just fake an outcry to soften the image of 100′s of 1000′s of yemenis, iraqis, libyan.. war casualties they are wholly or partly responsible for. Khashoggi’s death is no more brutal than that of Gaddafi. What’s the big deal ?
Khashoggi is an islamist and is linked to the political enemy of the present ruling saudi prince. Overall he is just a casualty number of internal saudi power struggle.
(Sunni) Islam is basically a caravan of arab tribal or civilizational power and the house of Saud just rides this vehicle or caravan to siphon off the oil wealth.
The house of Saud, said to be jewish in origin, have the option to migrate en mass to Israel or French Riviera, with their swiss/US/caribbean offshore accounts during time of crisis or after new forms of energy resource displace oil…
