Since the Chinese retaliated, such as boycotting all of US soybean purchases, and boycotting buying US oil (note that Boeing, soyabeans, and oil are the biggest 3 US exports to China), then the currency slide a little - what did they think will happen?
The US trade deficit with China can only go up!
They publish the trade number ever month. Every month Trump is going to look like a fool.
No one understands economics (it just seems like it). No one will listen to any explain of the how or why this is the case, or whether is can be good or bad, or if there were an trade-offs involved.
No one will care about that. All they will see is that number.
