There's another issue people might miss: The malaysian airforce is not a big force and yet their 28 russian jets came in 2 types(su30&mig29) made by different manufacturers. Apparently they don't care about maintenance commonality. That also shows why the Pak airforce(> malaysian's) didn't want to buy chinese J-10. They already operate the yankie F-16 and it doesn't make sense to operate 2 different jets of same size and roles
