(KPL) Thousands of Vientiane residents, government officials, diplomatic corps and foreign nationals flocked to the National Cultural Hall to watch Chinese cultural and acrobatic shows on Monday night.

The shows under the theme “Ode to the Moon” were among activities scheduled for the celebration of Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival 2017.

This event was organized by the Chinese Culture Centre in cooperation with Hubei Arts Troupe of China and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

The event saw the participation of Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Boua-ngeun Saphouvong, Chinese Ambassador to Laos Wang Wentian and his spouse.

The event aimed to make Lao people have broader understanding of the traditional cultures of Chinese people and Chinese diasporas and promote the solidarity and longstanding friendship between two countries Laos and China.

Hubei cultural shows featured Taste of China, Who is the Fairest, Romantic Charm of Wudang, Heavenly Sound of Silk Road and Chu Melody as well as the song South of Colorful Clouds, Blooming Flowers and Full Moon, Dragon-boat Melody, Crazy in Love-Compulsion and the Moon Represents My Heart and magic shows including “Dreamy Ballet”, Acrobatic show “Rola Bola” and “Power”.

Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese calendar, which is in September or early October on the Gregorian calendar when the moon is at its roundest and brightest, symbolizing togetherness and reunion in Chinese culture.

Chinese people celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival with many traditional and meaningful activities, such as eating dinner with family, hanging lanterns, guessing lantern riddles, and worshipping the moon.
