Singapore's life line is the incompetence of its neighbours.  Its economy relies on valued added services that its neighbours cannot provide.  Why should Singapore side with China just because China says so?  Under the surface, Singapore has been a consistent supporter of China's economic ascendancy and I doubt it would change anytime sooner.  But to outright spite its neighbours would be akin to suicide.
