wrongful conviction is extremely rare.  Many death row inmates had also been exonerated ever since the advent of DNA.  A self-admission of guilt alone won't secure conviction and criminal justice system no longers relies solely on eyewitness.  Criminals nowadays find it increasingly difficult to leave a crime scene without leaving a piece of incriminating evidence behind.
