Banana plantation use less insecticide whereas Mango plantation use orgnophosphate and many other systemic insecticide to maintain productivity.  It is usual to spend 30% of sales proceed on insecticide alone in mango plantation.  Banana are not that fragile and mainly fungicide are used.  Very likely those workers were already in danger of chemical overdose before working in the new banana plantation.
