► Chinese start-up readies 1030bhp supercar

Oh, how we do like surprises. And they come no bigger than this - a mystery Chinese start-up company calling itself Techrules, which will show off a Bugatti-busting electric supercar with a claimed 1030bhp at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

Only this single, pointlessly restricted teaser photograph has been issued so far, but we do know a little about its turbine-recharged electric powertrain.

Sorry! You said a turbine-recharged EV?

Yes. Techrules claims it has spun up a revolutionary (geddit?) range-extending turbine recharging technology to power an electric car. Sounds similar to the system using Bladon turbines in the stillborn Jaguar C-X75 supercar.

No details have yet been issued about how it works, but Techrules claims peak power of 1030bhp and a range of more than 1200 miles. Which is quite punchy.

Two cars are teased under a dustsheet, but by fiddling with the image we can make out two different sets of wheels/brakes/tyres - making us wonder if there will be a road and track version shown at Geneva.

Who the hell are Techrules, anyway?

Good question. It's a new automotive research and development company based in Beijing, whose stated aim is to develop disruptive powertrain technologies. It's a subsidiary of TXR-S, which specialises in aerospace, high-tech materials and biogas.
