American might resort to use force whenever they can to get their way.  Chinese have more ways to get ahead. First there are enough patriotic Chinese inTaiwan who will make sure no traitors sell off the island to foreign forces using the excuse of Taiwan independent.  If ever riots and killing started by say the green party traitors and their foreign collaborators, China is obligated by law to wipe out the trouble makers to restore peace in Taiwan.  Even this scenario will not play out in this competitive world, if Taiwanese continue infighting their economy will tank soon.  After that they will have learn their lesson to cooperate with the outside world which of course means mainland Chinese.  By the way semiconductors is no mystery, it is the investment in refining existing technology, making them smaller and more reliable.  The more important aspect is the where the market reside, and who is more efficient in producing them. Taiwan have no advantage in the two criteria if it is not part of China.
