I don't recall ever seeing the specs for the usable internal dimensions of the PLAN CCL VLS cell, but the Mk 41 cell's internal dimensions are something like 66cm x 66cm IIRC. Even if the PLAN one is much larger, say 1m x 1m, a significant portion of that will have to be devoted to venting the exhaust (at the periphery of the cell), making the actual usable internal volume much less than would be expected, maybe even the same as the Mk 41. Cold-launched missiles on the other hand could utilize the entire cross-sectional area of the CCL cell and benefit the most from the increased size of the CCL VL cell, but the tradeoff is that the bottom of the cell will require space for the gas system that is used to eject the missile from the cell. I suspect this is the reason the tallest CCL VLS system at 9m height is much taller than even the strike-length Mk 41 at 7.7m.
