I think they might have first arrived in England via Turkish merchants, and the English thought the birds actually came from Turkey. I have no idea where the Indian connection in other languages came from (maybe they mistook Mexican Indians for actual Indian Indians), but the Chinese name probably comes from the reddish coloration of the heads of many breeds.
