Remember Chinese civil war. A very long one at that. You had Mao Zedong, and Chiang Kai Sek, and the danm Jap.So Daesh, a.k.a. ISIS or ISIL, brings down a Russian airliner, and was responsible for the Paris incident.
Now everyone is mad and gonna to fight.
But in a twist, Turkey a NATO member shoots down a Russian warplane.
Hmmm ... did Daesh anticipate a split among all its enemies?
A three way fight, with no troops from NATO or Russia on the ground, that favours Daesh.
I mean, those guys, they know the neighbourhood. Who is fighting who, and who supports who, and how to counter that by bringing in more variables ...
Well, that seems why Middle East conflicts last forever, because all they really want to do is have everyone fighting.
With everyone fighting each other, there can be no resolution.
No resolution means Daesh stays.
Daesh could be the real thing. Strategically, Tactically, and disturbing Propagandally.
And if they should suffer battle field defeats, they will just do what Chairman Mao did by hiding in the country side, Long March, because America led NATO will be at loggerheads with Strong Man Putin for the foreseeable future.
That three way type of conflict, gives Daesh a chance.
