Well, um, how does these US patrols deter further salami slicing, which by definition is just very small moves at a time.
Suppose China continues on with the salami slicing at various intervals. And the US continues it patrols.
Basically, if there is not a shooting war, then the situation still at square 1, because that is what the salami slicing is all about.
