China has been detaining Vietnamese fisherman, and won't release them until they pay their fine and even after that, PRC won't even return the fishing boat they took. I'm not sure if this aggressiveness was done in the past.

Japan has reported that China has sent patrol boats to the waters right around DuiYuTai. Again, I am not sure if this is entirely new, but it seems it is. First time they were dispatched, the Japanese already release the captain. After a few days, the Chinese patrol boats left the area. But then that Japanese Foriegn Minister insulted the Chinese. Again two patrol boats were dispatched to the area.

I guess we all see the main point that China is no more Mr. Nice guy, and China will confront anyone in the neighbourhood.

That's a bold stragety.

There's a idea where you try to pacify your neighbour. Looks like China is trying to pacify the neighbours by intimidation, whether economic or military.

As for the USA, well ... they're not exactly a neighbour, so no point in intimidation against them. They require a different stragety.

It's kind of interesting, that China is embroiled with some minor or not too minor spats with various other parties. All at the same time.
