Maybe some parts were wrong in the analysis:
- "They had better weapons than PLA (Chinese+Soviet+US made)" - Yes, for the major force of VPA. But that force was busy dealing with the Khmer Rouge in Feb 1979. Although Phnompen was taken on Jan 7th (after 1-2 weeks of blitzkrieg (or so-spelled :-), VPA was having to chase the Khmer Rouge to Thai border. Fighting against PLA were mostly border patrol units (many of those were ethnic). (BTW, VN saved Cambodian from extinction but I dont know why they dont like VNmese.)
All captured American were quite high tech at that time (F-5, M-48, etc) but totally useless because VPA have no compatible parts, ammunition, no one who understand English in 1975.

- "(China established) better relations with other countries - Cambordia, Laos, Thailand...": Not with Laos and Cambodia until recently. After 79, VN has secured his eastern flank by having Laos and Cambodia became VN's close allies.

- "At the end, it also mentioned that India is on the same road as what the Viet Nam was in 1979 by claiming China is their number one enemy and will get their due": Actually, China has always been VN's number one threat in his history - except for some short periods.

- "Weaken a potential enemy": this point is right. VN had always been weakened after fighting against his giant neighbor - even with a victory. In history, there were many times that VNmese kings sent ambassadors with gold (and nice girls) to Chinese emperor after winning a war against it, in order to make a little peace.

The battle of Kashan: I don't know about this. More information is highly appreciated.

Dont think I'm anti-Chinese. Just some of my thoughts on the report.
