>>>As brokers would say, past performance is no guarantee of future results. Granted that PLA today is still as tenacious as their predecessors half a century ago, you still have to consider that the ROC military is not the same as the collection of almost untrained mobs.

Like I said, I will bet on the PRC and we shall see.

>>>A great portion of PRC's current economic growth depends on exports to the US. One must consider that the US may decide to pull the plug before the PRC grows too strong for comfort. Sure, both sides will suffer in a trade war, but to some it may be considered inexpensive compared to a shooting war.

You making it sound as if the USA is doing the PRC a great favor by allowing the PRC to export its goods. Got to disagree with you on this as well. One sentence for you, the benifits as equally enjoyed by both the PRC and the USA. In case if the usa decides to pull the plug so to speak, there's always the European and jap market. I wouldn't count on too much on the usa, and I'm sure the PRC guys are tupid either to allow such dependency to lose control.

>>>I don't have references handy right now. Will dig up some things later on.

Good, I'm looking forward to it.

>>>Perhaps it is not obvious to you, but not too many in Taiwan consider "our" ROC to be exactly the same one beaten badly by the PRC. KMT today is hardly the same party as KMT half a century ago either. It is not the same store that went Chapter 11 before even if we have been using the same old sign after re-opening.

I see a clear anology of a Chinese saying "Huan(4) Tang(1) Bu (2) Huan(4) Yao(4)" here, I still wouldn't give too much credit on the ROC military today. Whether you agree or not, the truth is if the PRC decides to take Taiwan militarily today, the PLA WILL accomplish its mission regardless of the price, even the CIA/Pentagon has made the bet.

>>> Furthermore, psychological advantage is a very, very fragile thing to count on. When a population thinks it has the upper hand, it becomes far less tolerant to setbacks. Remember how Germany, having swept through Western Europe and waiting for Britain to beg for mercy, overreacted and probably lost the Battle of Britain as the consequence because RAF staged one air raid over Berlin that hardly did any damage?

Are you comparing the small RAF air raid over Berlin with what the great defeat of the KMT in the civil war?
