Not just Madhya Pradesh: Denying eggs to malnourished children is common in BJP-run states

A staggering 52% of children in Madhya Pradesh are malnourished but chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has flatly refused to provide them with a key source of protein they could use: eggs. He made his stand clear recently while turning down a proposal from the state’s own Women and Child Development department to serve eggs on a pilot basis in the anganwadis of three tribal districts...."

"The anti-egg lobby
As is evident from the maps, most states across northern and western India do not provide eggs in its nutrition programmes. In some Bharatiya Janata Party-run states in particular, however, attempts to introduce eggs on the menu have been consistently blocked by groups opposing non-vegetarian food.

I'm not talking about balut, I'm talking about something freshly laid. Americans are VERY squeamish about food like that.

No it doesn't, the blastoderm should be noticeably visible in fresh fertile eggs

and might be associated with blood spots (regarded with horror by non-Mexicans, even though they aren't necessarily a sign of fertility unlike the blastoderm, which the average SWPL probably thinks is some kind of egg-leprosy or perhaps Zerg infestation). After less than a day of incubation time, things start getting pretty gnarly with veins and stuff, and then you get balut.

I think these other kids were after the protein-- People were poor in those days in HK. One girl in our village ate dragonflies and grasshoppers and I supplied a few dragonflies to her. She just fried them over a fire and ate them. It's just high protein food!

and can be produced in massive quantities. Grasshoppers are eaten in parts of Mexico and exported to the United States for sale to some local Mexican populations. There was a flap a few years ago about lead contamination because they were processed by drying on the side of roads (Mexico still used leaded gasoline at that time).

They're shipped in from Korea as a byproduct of the silk industry, and obviously aren't consumed by Americans. It's not kosher (some grasshoppers are) and probably not halal. Uyghurs and Huis traditionally did operate silk farms, I wonder what they did with the pupae? Dog food or chicken feed?
